Pol Roger Reserve Brut Réserve Etuis - 1849 white - 12.5% vol. 0.75l
Reserve Brut is a cuvée of 30 different crus (this is how the vineyards with higher classified wines are called). Only after their double fermentation are the wines from the different regions blended, bottled and stored in the 33 meter deep cellars to mature. Pinot Noir (predominantly from Berg Montagne de Reims) brings the power and structural framework to champagne. Pinot Meunier (from the Marne Valley and the Epernay region) provides freshness, fruitiness and the necessary roundness of texture. Chardonnay from Epernay and the Côte des Blancs provides the finesse, the lightness and brings in its aromatic complexity.

Pol Roger Reserve Brut Champagne - background knowledge
The House of Champagne Pol Roger has cultivated the fine art of champagne for around 170 years. Founded in 1849 in Épernay, France, Maison Champagne has around 92 hectares of its own vineyards. Since these are in no way sufficient for their annual production volume of around 1.5 million liters of alcohol, close relationships have always been maintained with regional winegrowers. Pol Roger was and still is extremely popular, especially in royal families, and was – yes, one is proud of that – one of the favorites of a certain Sir Winston Churchill (that was the gentleman with the quote: “no sports”). Incidentally, a separate champagne was dedicated to him in his honour.
