The Ficus lyrata has its origins in West Africa. There it grows in tropical rainforests, particularly from Cameroon to the Ivory Coast. The plant belongs to the mulberry family and can grow into a tree up to 12 meters high in the wild.

The Ficus lyrata requires sufficient indirect sunlight and prefers a warm, moist environment, similar to its native habitat. In addition, the plant needs a good supply of water, but without the roots being left standing in water. The soil should be well drained to prevent root rot.

During the growth phase in spring and summer it is necessary to fertilize the plant regularly.
