Pierre-Joseph Redouté was very popular. Official painter to Queen Marie-Antoinette (who is said to have summoned him at midnight to paint a cactus) and later favorite of Josephine Bonaparte, he brought flowers to the highest circles and countered the chaotic upheavals of the French Revolution with the grace of his perfectly drawn blossoms .

This volume brings together all the color casts from Redouté's masterpieces Les Roses (The Roses) and Choix des plus belles fleurs (Selection of the Most Beautiful Flowers), complemented by the most beautiful panels from Les Liliacées (The Lilies), and evokes the bygone beauty of Parisian greenhouses and gardens.
